Question :6

Area of rectangular field is 3584 $m^2$ and the length and the breadth are in the ratio 7: 2 respectively. What is the perimeter of the rectangle?

Answer: (d)

Area i.e. 7x × 2x = 3584

$14x^2$ = 3584

$x^2 = 3584/14$ = 256

x = $√256$=16

Length = 7 × 16 = 112

Breadth = 2 × 16 = 32

Perimeter = 2 (l × b) = 2 (112 + 32) = 288.

Question :7

Three containers have their volumes in the ratio 3 : 4 : 5. They are full of mixture of milk and water. The mixtures contain milk and water in the ratio of (4 : 1), (3 : 1) and (5 : 2) respectively. The contents of all these three containers are poured into a fourth container. The ratio of milk and water in the fourth container is

Answer: (b)

Let the three containers contain 3x, 4x and 5x litres of mixtures respectively,

Milk in 1st mix. = $(3x × 4/5) litres = {12x}/5$ litres.

Water in 1st mix. = $(3x-{12x}/5) litres = {3x}/5$ litres.

Milk in 2nd mix. = $(4x × 3/4)$ litres = 3x litres.

Water in 2nd mix. = (4x – 3x) litres = x litres.

Milk in 3rd mix. = $(5x × 5/7) litres = {25x}/7$ litres.

Water in 3rd mix. = $(5x - {25x}/7) litres = {10x}/7$ litres.

Total milk in final mix. = $({12x}/5 + 3x + {25x}/7)$ litres

= ${314x}/35$ litres.

Total water in final mix. = $({3x}/5 + x + {10x}/7)$ litres

= ${106x}/35$ litres.

Required ratio of milk and water = ${314x}/35 : {106x}/35$ = 157 : 53.

Question :8

Seats for mathematics, physics and biology in a school are in the ratio 5 : 7 : 8. There is a proposal to increase these seats by 40 %, 50% and 75% respectively. The ratio of increased seats will be

Answer: (a)

Let the number of seats for mathematics, physics and biology be 5x, 7x and 8x respectively.

No of increased seats are (140% of 5x), (150% of 7x) and (175% of 8x)

i.e. $({{140}/{100}}×5x), ({{150}/{100}}× 7x)$ and $({{175}/{100}}× 8x)$

i.e. 7x, ${21}/2$x, 14x

∴Required ratio 7x : ${21}/2$ x : 14x

i.e. 14x : 21x : 28x

= 2 : 3 : 4

Question :9

75% of a numer is equal to three seventh of another number. What is the ratio between the first number and the second number respectively?

Answer: (e)

Let the Ist no. be x and IInd no. be y.

$75/100 x = 3/7y$

.75 x = .43y

$x/y=.43/.75=43/75$

Question :10

What will come in place of both the question marks (?) in the following questions? ${(?)^{1/2}}/{42} = 5/{(?)^{1/3}}$

Answer: (c)

$(?)^{2/3+1/2} = 42 × 5 or ?^{3/3}$ = 210
